Actor Gerardo Romano was the victim of an online scam attempt that forced him to abruptly withdraw and suspend his play 'El Secreto' in Mar del Plata last Thursday. According to Romano's testimony to La Capital de Mar del Plata, accessed by the Argentine News Agency, the scam involved a dramatic story: after being attacked by a thief, a third party allegedly intervened and killed the criminal. During the call, his 'daughter' passed the phone to a 'police officer' who demanded a payment of $55,000 to release the young woman, warning that the call could not be cut off. 'It was a horrible moment because my 20-year-old daughter, who lives in Montevideo, was involved,' explained Romano. 'I was about to commit suicide, thinking about calling the director to cancel the show and travel to Montevideo immediately.' However, he managed to locate his real daughter at a beach, safe and sound, which disproved the story from the call. 'When she called me again to tell me everything, I felt very happy,' he said. 'I, who am a professional at noticing when someone is overacting, lying or exaggerating, was talking for 20 minutes with an extraordinary actress who was pretending to be my daughter.'
